Westerners are not only known as history ignoramuses, but double dumbass history ignoramuses when it comes to the history of Joseph Robinette "Joe" Biden Jr. (1942-). Since I'm the one-and-only Historyscoper (tm), let me quickly bring you up to speed before you dive into my Master Historyscope.

Biden's father Joseph Robinette Biden Sr. (1915-2002) was of English, French, and Irish descent. His mother Catherine Eugenia "Jean" Biden (nee Finnegan) (1917-2010) was of Irish descent, with ancestors from County Louth and County Londonderry. They were both Roman Catholic. The Biden family in the U.S. traces to William Biden (1790-1840), who emigrated from England to Roman Catholic Md. The Biden name comes from the Anglo-Saxon word for a maker of buttons, tracing back to the Old French word boton (button).

Biden then went to Roman Catholic prep school Archmere Academy, where he was elected class pres. but disqualified by the administrators because of too many demerits. He played wide receiver and halfback on the school's undefeated 1960 football team, catching 19 TD passes - getting CTE like other football players? While in at Archmere Biden walked out of a restaurant that refused to serve a fellow football player who was black. In 1962-3 he participated in picketing of the Rialto, the last segregated movie theater in Wilmington. In 1983 he mangles the facts, uttering the soundbyte: "When I was 17, I participated in sit-ins to desegregate restaurants and movie houses. And my stomach turned upon hearing the voices of Faubus and Wallace. My soul raged on seeing Bull Connor and his dogs." Too bad, Dem. public safety commissioner Theophilus Eugene "Bull" Connor (1897-1973) didn't sic attack dogs on black students in Birmingham, Ala. until May 2-3, 1963, when Biden was 20. In 1987 he uttered the soundbyte: "When I marched in the civil rights movement, I did not march with a 12-point program. I marched with tens of thousands of others to change attitudes. And we changed attitudes"; also: "When I was 17 years old, I participated in sit-ins to desegregate restaurants and movie houses of Wilmington, Del."

In 1965 Biden earned a bachelor's degree in history and political science from the U. of Del. after getting probation for spraying the dorm dir. with a fire extinguisher, followed by a law degree from Syracuse U. in 1968, where he was caught plagiarizing a law review article and had to retake a course. While at the U. of Del. he spent one summer as the only white lifeguard of an all-black swimming pool.

Joe Biden (1942-) and Neilia Hunter Biden (1942-72

On Aug. 27, 1966 after meeting her on a spring break in the Bahamas in his junior year and having her slip him $20 under the table to pay the bill on their 2nd date at a restaurant, Joe Biden marries Neilia Hunter (1942-72), telling her and/or her mother that his aim is to become a U.S. Sen. by age 30 followed by U.S. pres.; his father gives him a 1967 Corvette Stingray that he never parts with; they go on to have children Joseph Robinette "Beau" Biden III (1969-2015), Robert Hunter Biden (1970-), and Naomi Christina Biden (1971-2), uttering the soundbyte: " I'm not a 'keep 'em barefoot and pregnant' man, but I am all for keeping them pregnant until I have a little girl. The only good thing in the world is kids."

Biden then entered law school at Syracuse U., buying a puppy for Neilia that he named "Senator", graduating in 1968 and losing his student draft deferment, after which the Selective Service classified him as unavailable for service due to asthma. When asked why he didn't join some of the anti-Vienam War protests, he uttered the soundbyte: "I'm not big on flak jackets and tie-dye shirts. Other people marched. I ran for office, got elected to the United States Senate at 29, and came down here and was one of those votes that helped stop the war." He later begins telling a tall tale about entering public service after working for a law firm being sued by a 23-y.-o. welder who "lost part of his penis and one of his testicles", and using courtroom tricks to cheat him out of his compensation, causing pangs of conscience - he never has any while lying through his teeth?

Biden then became a public defender in Del., defending a 25-y.o. fisherman accused of stealing a prize-winning Holstein cow.

On Nov. 4, 1970 after registering as a Dem., Biden becomes a member of the New Castle County Council (until Nov. 8, 1972), already talking about running for U.S. Sen., supporting public (i.e., welfare black) housing, resulting in racist phone calls, claiming that one of them asked him: "You nigger lover, you want them living next to you?" and replying "If you're the alternative I guess the answer is yes."

In 1970 Joe Biden utters the soundbytes that smoking and drinking are a "crutch", but "I use football as a crutch, and motorcycle jumping and skiing... but those are crutches over which I have some control."

On Nov. 7, 1972 after defeating incumbent Repub. Sen. Cale Boggs, Biden wins the election for U.S. Dem. Sen. in Del., taking office on Jan. 3, 1973 (until Jan. 15, 2009), becoming the youngest man in the U.S. Senate; "After 1972, he [Joe's father] gave up car sales and went into real estate. He didn't want a United States senator to have a used-car salesman for a dad.", according to Joe's sister Valerie Biden.

On Dec. 18, 1972 Joe Biden's wife Neilia and 13-mo.-o. daughter Naomi Christina are killed instantly in Hockessin, Del. en route home in their family station wagon after picking up a Christmas tree by a tractor-trailer carrying corncobs after she runs a stop sign; sons Beau and Hunter are hospitalized with serious injuries after being talked out of resigning by Sen. majority leader Mike Mansfield, he takes the oath of office from the bedside of son Beau; after the crash, Biden continues to live in his home in Wilmington, Del., taking the 75-min. Amtrak train ride to/from Washington, D.C. for more than 30 years, going on to call the Amtrak crews his family and hosting BBQs for conductors and attendants at his home; in 2001 Biden accuses the truck driver of being drunk, and does ditto in 2008, then later after chief deputy atty. gen. Jerome O. Herlihy, who led the investigation corrects him that he was sober, apologizes to the driver's daughter.

In 1974 Biden issues the soundbyte: "When it comes to issues like abortion... I'm about as liberal as your grandmother. I don't like the decision on abortion. I think it went too far. I don't think that a woman has the sole right to say what should happen to her body" in 1981 he votes for a U.S. constitutional amendment to overturn the 1972 Supreme Court decision Roe v. Wade.

In Sept. 1975 Del. Dem. Sen. Joe Biden speaks on the U.S. Senate floor against giving the U.S. Dept. of Health, Education and Welfare the power to withhold funding from districts that refuse to integrate, causing U.S. Sen. (R-N.C.) (1973-2003) Jesse Helms to welcome him "to the ranks of the enlightened"; Biden's measure to prevent schools from using federal dollars to assign teachers and students by race passes by 50-43; in 1977 Biden speaks at a hearing about busing of students to desegregate public schools, uttering the soundbyte: "Unless we do something about this, my children are going to grow up in a jungle, the jungle being a racial jungle with tensions having built so high that it is going to explode at some point. We have got to make some move on this"; on July 2, 2010 Biden also praises ex-KKK segregationist Sen. Robert Byrd.

He warned us that he might change his mind bigtime? In 1975 anti-busing Dem. Del. Sen. Joe Biden gives an interview to the weekly Del.-based People Paper newspaper, with the soundbyte: "I do not buy the concept, popular in the '60s, which said, 'We have suppressed the black man for 300 years and the white man is now far ahead in the race for everything our society offers. In order to even the score, we must now give the black man a head start, or even hold the white man back, to even the race. I don’t buy that”, also rejecting the idea of reparations for slavery, with the soundbyte: "I don’t feel responsible for the sins of my father and grandfather. I feel responsible for what the situation is today, for the sins of my own generation. And I'll be damned if I feel responsible to pay for what happened 300 years ago."

Jill Biden (1951-)

On June 17, 1977 Joe Biden marries divorced English teacher (fellow Roman Catholic) Jill Tracy Jacobs (1951-), going on to have daughter Ashley Blazer (1981-); Joe caused Jill's divorce from Steel Balloon owner Bill Stevenson by hooking up with him in secret and getting caught?

In 1979 U.S. Navy liaison to the U.S. Senate Joe Biden and his wife Jill attend a Navy reception in Hawaii with their good friend John McCain, urging him to go over and introduce himself to his future wife Cindy; they marry on May 17, 1980 in Phoenix, Ariz., after which John retires from the Navy as a capt. on Apr. 1, 1981 and enters politics, becoming a Repub. U.S. rep from Ariz. on Jan. 3, 1983-Jan. 3, 1987; in 2018 McCain asks Biden to deliver the eulogy at his funeral.

In 1979 U.S. Dem. Del. Sen. Joe Biden visits Communist China for the first time, going on to support giving them most favored nation status and trade deals granting them access to U.S. markets despite their massive spy program to steal U.S. intellectual property, going generally soft on China, uttering the soundbyte: "A rising China is a... positive development, not only for China, but for America."

In 1983 Dem. Del. U.S. Sen. Joe Biden (since 1973) Joe Biden calls for raising the Social Security retirement age, followed in 1984 by a freeze in all federal spending to balance the budget; on Jan. 31, 1995 Biden utters the soundbyte on the U.S. Senate floor: "When I argued that we should freeze federal spending, I meant Social Security... I meant Medicare and Medicaid. I meant veterans’ benefits. I meant every single solitary thing in the government. And I not only tried it once, I tried it twice, I tried it a third time, and I tried it a fourth time... I tried with Sen. Grassley back in the ’80s to freeze all government spending, including Social Security, including everything"; too bad, on Mar. 15, 2020 after Bernie Sanders calls him on it, he vigorously denies ever doing it.

On July 9, 1985 during debate over the U.S. Firearm Owners Protection Act (FOPA), Senate Judiciary Committee member Joe Biden (D-Del.) sides with the NRA, uttering the soundbyte that criminals will get firearms "with or without gun control"; it is approved by the Senate by a 79-15 vote.

On Jan. 29, 1987 U.S. Sen. (D-Del.) (1973-2009) Joseph Robinette "Joe" Biden Jr. (1942-) introduces the Global Climate Protection Act for creation of a nat. climate strategy, becoming the first Senate bill dealing with climate change, directing the U.S. pres. to establish a Task Force on Global Climate to do R&D and implement a nat. strategy on global climate and deliver a U.S. Strategy on Global Climate to the U.S. pres. within a year, which he is required to report to specified members of Congress, while appointing an ambassador at large to coordinate U.S. govt. efforts in multinat. efforts to fight global warming, also requiring the U.S. pres. to give climate protection top priority in his agenda of U.S.-Soviet relations; the U.S. secy. of state is directed to promote an Internat. Year of Global Climate Protection; too bad, it doesn't pass.

On June 9, 1987 Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr. of Del. announces his candidacy for the Dem. U.S. pres. nomination.

Robert Heron Bork of the U.S. (1927-2012)

On July 1, 1987 after Lewis Powell retires on June 27, Pres. Reagan ignores warnings from Dems., the ACLU et al. and nominates conservative "original intent of the framers" champion federal appeals court judge Robert Heron Bork (1927-2012) (pro-executive supremacy, anti-civil rights incl. right to privacy) to the U.S. Supreme Court, causing Sen. Ted Kennedy to give a speech in the Senate lying like hell about him: "Robert Bork's America is a land in which women would be forced into back-alley abortions, blacks would sit at segregated lunch counters, rogue police could break down citizens' doors in midnight raids, schoolchildren could not be taught about evolution, writers and artists could be censored at the whim of the Government, and the doors of the Federal courts would be shut on the fingers of millions of citizens for whom the judiciary is - and is often the only - protector of the individual rights that are the heart of our democracy... President Reagan is still our president, but he should not be able to reach out from the muck of Irangate, reach into the muck of Watergate and impose his reactionary vision of the Constitution on the Supreme Court and the next generation of Americans. No justice would be better than this injustice", causing Bork to reply: "There was not a line in that speech that was accurate"; on Sept. 15-19 Bork tells the Senate Judiciary Committee, led by Del. Dem. Sen. Joe Biden that his philosophy is "neither liberal nor conservative" and that he would "interpret the law and not make it"; Biden leads the opposition to Bork in the Senate, baiting him into airing his politically controversial views in dense legalise, esp. Griswold v. Conn., which legalized contraceptives for married people, which plays in his hands; on Oct. 2 despite Pres. Reagan's attempts to strongarm them, more Dem. sens. line up against Bork; on Oct. 6 the Senate Judiciary Committee votes 9-5 against his nomination; on Oct. 9, his rejection by the Senate a virtual certainty, he angrily tells reporters that he will not ask that his nomination be withdrawn; on Oct. 23 the U.S. Senate rejects him by 58-42, launching a new era of political wars over the judiciary - which is conservative by definition?

Neil Gordon Kinnock of Britain (1942-)

On Sept. 12, 1987 reports surface that Dem. pres. candidate Joseph Biden had plagiarized, without attribution, passages of a speech by British Labour Party leader (since Oct. 2, 1983) Neil Gordon Kinnock (1942-) for one of his own campaign speeches.

On Sept. 30, 1987 two top campaign aides of Mass. Gov. Michael S. Dukakis resign after one of them, campaign mgr. John Sasso admits leaking an attack videotape that helped bring down the pres. candidacy of Del. Sen. Joseph Biden.

On Sept. 23, 1987 Del. Sen. Joseph Biden withdraws from the Dem. pres. race following questions about his use of borrowed quotations and the portrayal of his academic record, uttering the soundbyte at a campaign stop in N.H.: " I think I probably have a much higher IQ than you do, I suspect. I went to law school on a full academic scholarship, the only one in my, in my class to have a full academic scholarship. In the first year in law school I decided didn't want to be in law school and ended up in the bottom two-thirds of my class, and then decided I wanted to stay, went back to law school, and in fact ended up in the top half of my class. I won the international moot-court competition. I was the outstanding student in the political science department at the end of my year. I graduated with three degrees from undergraduate school and 165 credits. I only needed 123 credits. And I'd be delighted to sit down and compare my IQ to yours if you'd like."

On Nov. 29, 1987 Pres. George H.W. Bush signs the U.S. Gun-Free School Zones Act of 1990, introduced by Del. Dem. Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr., banning possession of handguns near schools; no surprise, on Apr. 26, 1995 the U.S. Supreme Court rules 5-4 in U.S. v. Lopez that it is unconstitutional, becoming the first time in over 50 years that they limit Congressional authority to grab power under guise of the Commerce Clause, causing it to be amended to apply only to guns that have been moved via interstate commerce; "It shall be unlawful for any individual knowingly to possess a firearm that has moved in or that otherwise affects interstate or foreign commerce at a place that the individual knows, or has reasonable cause to believe, is a school zone".

On Jan. 12, 1991 over the objections of U.S. defense secy. Dick Cheney, Pres. Bush receives authorization from Congress to use force to end Iraq's occupation of Kuwait; Pope John Paul II warns that a Persian Gulf War would represent "a decline for all humanity", as one of more than 50 appeals for peace between last Aug. and the Feb. ceasefire; when the war is successful and popular at home, Dems. incl. John Kerry and Joe Biden who voted against the authorization knock themselves out of the running for U.S. pres., opening the way for Bill Clinton?

The token black on the court changes faces, but the difference is between the legs not the ears? On June 28, 1991 liberal black U.S. Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall (since 1967) retires, and on July 1 conservative black Pin Point, Ga.-born U.S. Court of Appeals judge for the District of Columbia (since 1990) (chmn. of the EEOC in 1982-90) Clarence Thomas (1948-) is nominated by Pres. George H.W. Bush, winning Senate confirmation by 52-48 on Oct. 15 after a bumpy confirmation process, championed by U.S. Sen. (R-Mo.) John Claggett "Jack" Danforth (1936-); on Oct. 23 he becomes U.S. Supreme Court justice #106 (until ?), and the 2nd African-Am.; his confirmation is plagued by criticism by civil rights groups for his opposition to affirmative action programs and school desegregation busing, and is almost derailed by a leaked FBI report on allegations of sexual harassment made by U. of Okla. (Norman) law prof. Anita Faye Hill (1956-), who had worked for him at the Dept. of Ed. and the EEOC, and publicly woo-woos about his sexual advances on her, incl. his bragging about the size of his brains?; in early Oct. the Senate Judiciary Committee, chaired by U.S. Sen. (D-Del.) (1973-2009) Joseph Robinette "Joe" Biden Jr. (1942-) explores the charges, which Thomas calls a "high-tech lynching", but they decide are not conclusive after Biden blocks several women from testifying to corroborate Hill's testimony; after joining the court, Thomas converts to Roman Catholicism; "He told me that if I ever told anybody, it would ruin his career" (Hill); in 2019 as he prepares to run for U.S. pres., Biden privately expresses regret to Hill, with the soundbyte: "To this day, I regret I couldn't give her the kind of hearing she deserved. I wish I could have done something"; Hill says she doesn't consider it an apology.

On June 25, 1992 U.S. Dem. Sen. Joseph Biden gives a speech in the U.S. Senate, announcing the Biden Rule, that a Supreme Court nomination by a lame duck U.S. pres. shouldn't be considered until his successor is elected, with the soundbyte: "It would be our pragmatic conclusion that once the political season is under way, and it is, action on a Supreme Court nomination must be put off until after the election campaign is over. That is what is fair to the nominee and is central to the process. Others may fret that this approach would leave the Court with only eight members for some time, but as I see it... the cost of such a result, the need to reargue three or four cases that will divide the Justices four to four, are quite minor compared to the cost that a nominee, the president, the Senate, and the nation would have to pay for what would assuredly be a bitter fight, no matter how good a person is nominated by the president"; it comes back to haunt him in 2016.

Gian Luigi Ferri (1937-93)

On July 1, 1993 55-y.-o. failed entrepreneur Gian Luigi Ferri (b. 1937) fires TEC-9 and Norinco NP44 semi-automatic pistols in the 101 Calif. St. offices of San Francisco law firm Pettit and Martin (with whom he had been involved in a lawsuit), killing eight and wounding six before killing himself; none of the 30 law firm employees on his hit list are injured; the shooting sparks several legislative actions leading to the 1994 U.S. Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act - should have played more arcade games?

On Nov. 17, 1993 the U.S. House of Reps. passes the North Am. Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), followed by the U.S. Senate on Nov. 20 as fears that U.S. jobs would go to Mexico are pooh-poohed with even greater fears that unless Mexico's economy improves even more illegal Mexican immigrants will come to the U.S.; Pres. Clinton signs it into law on Dec. 8, to go into effect on Jan. 1; Wall Street Journal ed. Robert Leroy Bartley (1937-2003) supports it, along with a constitutional amendment reading "There shall be open borders", with the soundbyte: "I think the nation-state is finished"; Dem. Del. Sen. Joe Biden votes for it, predicing that U.S. workers won't be hurt by it, calling it a "legislative victory" and claiming it will "be a wash on jobs", only to see a Chrysler plant in Del. shut down in 2008, denying that it was due to NAFTA; meanwhile in 2007 he attempts to defend NAFTA, saying that it did not "aggrieve"him, and that it was "not a problem", claiming that in his home state of Del. it created more jobs than it lost.

On Nov. 18, 1993 Joe Biden gives a speech in the U.S. Senate warning of "predators on our streets" and wanting them put in prison, because "The consensus is A), we must take back the streets. It doesn'' matter whether or not the person that is accosting your son or daughter or my son or daughter, my wife, your husband, my mother, your parents. It doesn't matter whether or not they were deprived as a youth. It doesn't matter whether or not they had no background that enabled them to become socialized into the fabric of society. It doesn't matter whether or not they''re the victims of society. The end result is they're about to knock my mother on the head with a lead pipe, shoot my sister, beat up my wife, take on my sons... They must be taken off the streets", bragging that the Biden-Hatch crime bill started out as the Biden bill because he personally sat down with Pres. Clinton on it, who wants 100K new police on the streets and supports the death penalty, saying "He does not view this as a social issue as opposed to bringing peace to the streets", concluding: "I hope that we will have ended this notion, which is a hangover from the 1960s, that the Democrats are weak on crime and Republicans are tough on crime."

On Sept. 13, 1994 Pres. Clinton signs the 1994 U.S. Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act, drafted by Del. Dem. Sen. Joseph Biden, which provides for 100K new police officers, $9.7B funding for prisons, and $6.1B funding for crime prevention programs designed by experienced police officers; the Federal Assault Weapons Ban bans new classes of people from possessing firearms, greatly expands the federal death penalty, and defines a variety of new federal crimes involving immigration, hate crimes, sex crimes, and gang-related crime, requiring states to establish sex offender registries by Sept. 1997; the U.S. Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), co-sponsored by Dem. Sen. Joe Biden of Del. and Repub. Sen. Orrin Hatch of Utah provides $1.6B for a Nazi-like police surge into homes with powers to arrest alleged perps of domestic violence even when the alleged victim doesn't want to press charges, and tightens federal penalties, imposing automatic mandatory restitution and allowing victims to sue in civil court even if there is no criminal prosecution, causing men to begin realizing they're no longer masters of their castles but at the mercy of juries who get to vote on their civil rights on a case-by-case basis, although it does net the real offenders some of the time; "the greatest breakthrough in civil rights for women in nearly two decades" (NOW); too bad, it backfires on Biden when it disproportionately incarcerates blacks and browns, depopulating whole neighborhoods of their men folk.

On Oct. 2, 2001 (Tue.) (3 weeks after the 9/11 attacks) Dem. Del. Sen.
